Living in San Antonio for the past 18 years I never once visited a roller skating rink or even knew that there was one that existed in our city. So, when I found out about the Rollercade I was very anxious to go try it out with my kiddos. I didn’t know what to expect when we went, but it was a great place and we can’t wait to go back soon!
Here are some fun facts about the Rollercade. It was established in the 1950’s and the sign that is lit up outside in front of the roller skating facility has been there since 1958! The Rollercade has been family owned and operated since 1959 and you can truly tell that the people who work there are caring and will listen to you if you have any questions or needs.
Inside the Rollercade, they have a snack bar with plenty of seats for you to sit at and eat your snack or just hangout. In addition to the seats located in front of the snack bar, there are benches along the sides of the skating rink for you to help your kids get ready to go out and skate. Another thing my kids were super excited about was the arcade with a variety of games to play and the gumball machines had some cute little trinket toys in them.
Before heading out to skate, you tell them your shoe size or bring your own skates in. A cool thing, that was so nice to have for my kids, since they have never roller skated before is the PVC skating aid you could rent. This little skating aid helped my minis in learning and keeping the proper upright position to skate. And no need to worry about them running out of these little trainers, because they have plenty and in different sizes as well!
Now it is time to skate! In the middle of the facility is the roller skating rink and from my understanding the rink still has the original hardwood floors installed! They have a DJ playing music for you as the kids and adults skate by. We were there for about 2 hours and during that time there were several roller skate games they played and also certain brief periods of time the rink was dedicated for the slow and fast skaters. Such a neat idea to have roller skating games, my kids loved watching them play the games and I think will inspire them to want to learn how to skate so they can play the games too!
So, if you are in the San Antonio area or coming to visit San Antonio, Texas I would suggest visiting the Rollercade. It is such a great roller skating rink, lots of fun and friendly staff! I think your family will enjoy it as much as mine did!
The Rollercade is open everyday except for Mondays and Thursdays, however you can schedule private parties on those days if you like. Also, the Rollercade has party rooms you can rent during normal business hours. You can check their website out by clicking here.
